Fish paste mee hoon soup

A simple lunch :-)

[The restaurant specializes in fish head mee hoon soup. However, I didn't like fish head so I opted for fish paste. Yummy soup base! :-)]

Sleeping...

An acquaintance at the economy rice stall where I frequented...

Sleeping soundly... looks like he's smiling, dreaming about food? I read from somewhere that mammals such as dogs do dream. (Do they daydream?)

Usually he'd sleep during noon. Sometimes he'd twitch his face and front legs. Today he was laying at his side, breathing rapidly. Maybe he was dreaming about chasing something (or being chased). Took a picture of him very carefully, so that he wouldn't be startled and wake up.

Wish I could take a nap too! [Would definitely do that during weekend!]

Dr. Thumb Drive

Pr.WS' Dr. Thumb Drive

Hi, I'm Dr. Thumb Drive. I'm ready to help!

[Actually it's a little gift from Penang Adventist Hospital during the recent Peninsular Malaysia Mission Triennial Session. It was given to all pastors and delegates during registration. When my dad saw it he was wondering, "Why is the Mission giving us a toy?"]

Roadside Mee Rojak & Cendol

Another roadside lunch, in Petaling Jaya.

My Mee Rojak (mixed noodle in Malay) & cendol... The serving size was quite big, can't finish it. Had to pass the rest to Pr.WS! Thanks! :-)

I love cendol! During secondary school, I'd always get a little bowl of cendol at a roadside vendor nearby after class. I love the creaminess of coconut milk. A wonderful dessert for Malaysian weather!

[Was very hungry, only remembered to take picture of the food and not the truck. That's the problem with me, whenever there's food in front of me, I'd forget about other things.]

Roadside Chee Cheong Fun

猪肠粉
Mandarin: Zhu Chang Fen
Cantonese: Chee Cheong Fun
Literally, it's "pig intestine flour". Anyway, it's not made from pig intestine; it just looks like one. A Cantonese dish made from rice flour.

At Canning Garden, Ipoh, you'll find a Chee Cheong Fun truck parking under trees beside the road every weekend. According to the father, this is their little family business. During weekdays they have their own jobs. They only sell Chee Cheong Fun during weekdays.

(Was trying to take a picture of the entire truck but didn't wanna stand in the middle of the road and risked being knocked over!)

Chee Cheong Fun + Pok Pok Cui (beancurd crisp - Pok Pok Cui means it's so crunchy that it pops when you bite on it!)

In Ipoh Chee Cheong Fun is thinner and smaller in diameter, and the sauce is saltier and stickier, more like those in Hong Kong. I still prefer the firmer and thicker ones with sweet sauce found in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.

And then a cup of homemade soy milk...

Lunch beside the road & under the trees, what a relaxing Sunday! :-)

366 Random Acts of Kindness

366 Random Acts of Kindness is Valentine's Day Blog of Note. What a lovely choice!

It's a man's "journey to make people's lives better", by doing "a random act of kindness for a stranger, friend or family member" everyday during 2012.

For every Follow in Blogger and Like in Facebook, 10 cent will be donated for charity.

I'm touched & inspired by the blog.

There are so much unhappiness, complaints and criticisms around us. I seldom came across such positive blog. The world will be such much different that the one we are having now if each one of us start to practice kindness towards others. With a smile, a little help, a word of encouragement, we can brighten a person's day.

Stop saying & thinking negative things. Be kind to those around you. :-)

Tammy's Kitchen

Just discovered a nice little cafe in Ipoh. A church member brought me there (thanks a lot!).

Borrowed from Motormouth
The owner of the cafe is Tammy, as you can see from the signboard. A very friendly person.

Vegetable Spaghetti

Only remember to take picture of this dish when it's half eaten (I tend to forget to take picture when there's food in front of me). I like this spaghetti; light & easy! I don't like creamy and salty spaghetti.

Turkey & Ham Quiche

It's the first time I learned about the word "quiche", which means pie in French. We wanted to try chicken quiche. However, it's only available if you pre-order. The cafe is run by family, so they can't have too many dishes.

So I settled for this Turkey & Ham Quiche, after reading the review by Motormouth Ipoh right before I went to Tammy's Kitchen - a good recommendation. It was YUMMY! The salad besides the quiche was so refreshing!

My orange yoghurt drink

I ordered this drink also because of Motormouth's review. I like it; it's not too sweet. We also ordered mango Guai Leng Gou chocolate jelly cake (I can't recall the exact name so I just made it up) but I forgot to take picture. Guai Leng Gou is jelly made from herbs. At first I thought Guai Leng Gou and chocolate are such a weird combination, since Guai Leng Gou is a bit bitter, and mango & chocolate sweet.  However, when I tasted it I found that they made such a wonderful mix! It's difficult to describe it here, you'd better go and try it yourself!

I will definitely come back again to try other dishes! :-)

How much do you cost in gold?

Are you worth your weight in gold?

Key in your weight and find out how much of the same weight of gold cost.

My result:

However, I know I'm worth much more than that - we are created in the image of God.
Above all, God sent His son to die on the cross for me, for all of us. We cost the live of God's beloved Son, which no amount of gold can replace.

Jesus paid for all our sins, and grace is freely given to all!

The problem with clothes

Before sin entered the earth, everything was perfect. And there's no need for clothes (and its accessories such as belts, ties, bowties etc.), washing machines, dryers, detergents, bleach, softener, hangers, clippers, clothes lines, laundry basket, laundry nets, irons, ironing boards. You don't have to worry about what to wear at what occasion. No need to worry whether you have suitable shoes or handbags that go with your clothes. Or  the colors of eyeshadow and hair. In the beginning humans were donned with the glory of God, and that's the best fashion.

See how much our clothes are costing us nowadays! How much $$$ the fashion industry is making annually!

Besides death, another heavy price we pay for sin is clothes. But thank God that Jesus has already paid the first one for us!

Please Used with Gentle?!

Saw this at an electronic shop in one of the shopping mall in Ipoh...

It should be "Please use gently" or "Please use with gentleness"

Used is past tense or past participle, which shouldn't be used when requesting. And gently is an adverb; a noun should be put after the preposition "with". Whoever wrote this must be confused with parts of speech.

The problem with Malaysian education is that they are not teaching English grammar. The first time I showed my English textbook to my dad during secondary school, he got so mad that he brought to the bookstore and got me some English grammar books.

Grammar is the foundation of language. How can we master a language if we aren't learning proper grammar?

Happy Valentine's Day!

A classic love song by Whitney Houston, who passed away 3 days ago. Was surprised to read the news. Can't believe that such a wonderful voice is forever gone!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Love Ya, Pr. WS!

What's wrong with this picture?

A book I borrowed from the college library.

What's wrong with the picture at the cover? (Remember, this is a book about the psychology of decision making)

Answer (highlight after colon): Have you seen a black heart 3 before?

Allergy & Telfast

My body is prone to allergy. Mostly it happens on my skin. Itchiness is a frequent presence in my life. Many things can trigger rashes in me - unclean meat such as shellfish and pork, change of weather, dusty/dirty place etc. The most serious allergic reaction I've ever experienced is anaphylaxis. That's why I'm always carrying this:

Telfast, by Sanofi Aventis. I was introduced to this drug years back, when I was still in Mission College. I was having rashes all over my body and they were very very itchy. I went to the hospital but the antihistamines given by the doctor didn't help. They made me very sleepy but didn't stop the itchiness at all.

Then I went to the pharmacy in town. The proprietor was a young pharmacist who spoke fluent English. I told him I was looking for antihistamines that wouldn't make me sleepy, so he introduced me this drug. The company name of it struck me - it's AVENTIS, sounds like ADVENTIST. :-)

Since then I'd always keep some Telfast at home and in my bag, just in case. Very effective (I could feel the rashes subsiding within half an hour) and doesn't cause drowsiness like conventional antihistamines. It's a bit more expensive but it's a good choice for those who are prone to allergies.

I really look forward to the day when we will be changed in a twinkling of an eye, and all the itchiness (not just tears and pains) will be gone forever and ever!

Red @ Yellow?

In Malaysia,

green light = go!
yellow light = speed up before it's red! (instead of slow down and be prepared for red light)

If it's both yellow & red, what should we do? Speed up or stop?

Took this picture in the car, can't zoom very well with my camera phone. But you still can see both red & yellow lights.

There was a freaky storm the day before. It must have caused the traffic light failure.

[By the way, we stopped our car. Better to be careful than speeding up!]

The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore

An award-winning short film about books! The story about people who love and take care of books.

The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore from Moonbot Studios on Vimeo.

I was touched by the scene when Mr. Lessmore's life is almost at its end and he is passing on the curatorship to the young girl, like how he's been passed the duty from the previous lady.

I've never watched such a film about the love of books before. It made my day! :-)

[How I wish to work in a place where you're surrounded by books!]

Wimpy Braille Burger

Now, the visually impaired people not only can taste their burgers, they can also read them!

I was touched by the smiles of the visually impaired persons in the videos - their thrilled faces after reading the message on the burger.

We are to take care of those who are physically challenged. A little gesture from us may make their lives happier & easier. :-)

"Do not curse the deaf or put a stumbling block in front of the blind, but fear your God. I am the Lord." - Leviticus 19:14

Happy Sabbath!

At the mechanic's [II]

Our little Myvi sent for balancing & alignment...

Removing the tires

"Tireless"

Balancing - the equipment will determine whether the tire is "balance", if it's not, then a clip will be added at the edge of the rim. If a tire is unbalance, it'll wear out very soon and the car will wobble.

Ready for alignment - to make sure the car travel straight when the steering wheel is straight

After all the services, now our car is ready to run!

By the way, all the mechanics are men. When Pr.WS was studying mechanical engineering back then, there was no female student in his class. The very few girls were in electronic engineering.

Have you ever seen a female mechanic before? (I saw one in Fast & Furious 4; it's a Japanese lady if I'm not mistaken)

At the mechanic's [I]

Happened to be on leave when it's time for car service, so I went to the mechanic's with Pr.WS. I'd been there a few times, but this was the first time I took pictures.

I learned about car maintenance from 2 men - my dad & Pr.WS. I'm not a great fan of car (as long as it is able to move I'll be happy), but I think sending it for service on time is extremely important - don't want any breakdown while it's raining or driving on highway.

Lifted up!

A container to hold used engine oil, which was drained into it

The part of the car which we seldom see

Pouring in the new engine oil. It's light yellowish, which will turn black after a while - that's why engine oil is also called "Black Oil" in Chinese.

There is the common impression that women don't know how to take care of cars. It seems to be true, since most customers at the mechanic's are men. However, I think that's because men generally love their cars more so they are the ones who take care of cars. Their cars is like a concubine to them (& men usually love their concubine more :-P). As a woman, I can never understand men's obsession about car (just like they'd never understand why we women like shopping).

Anyway, we women must learn how to take care of car. Go to the mechanic's with your hubby/boyfriend/daddy (and bring them shopping with you too)! :-)
